Zelf zegt ze zoal Joanna Newsom, Regina Spektor, maar ook Bob Dylan en Leonard Cohen tot haar invloeden te rekenen. Folk-invloeden zijn ook duidelijk te horen, net als een keur aan instrumenten: van banjo en fiddle tot harmonium en allerlei fluiten. Ook van aparte geluiden en vokalen wordt gebruik gemaakt. Een heel mooi voorbeeld hiervan is Hourglass dat voorzien is van “bad”-geluiden en waarin een gedicht wordt voorgedragen. Het begin van Please Take Your Time doet denken aan Sweet Jane van de Cowboy Junkies. Ook heel erg fraai is het a capella gezongen George Collins en niet te vergeten het indrukwekkende Warm Winds. Eigenlijk is elk liedje op The Peppermint Conspiracy een lust voor het oor. Het is onwaarschijnlijk om eind januari al te moeten constateren dat dit wel eens een van de meest verrassende (debuut)platen van 2008 kan zijn. Gewoonweg prachtig!
